Dear NRDC Activist,

In the fight to protect our country's priceless public lands from fossil fuel exploitation, time is running out:

The Trump administration is taking steps to approve an enormous open-pit coal mine on the doorstep of Utah's Bryce Canyon National Park.

This massive coal operation just off Utah's Route 89 would threaten the park's air quality and dark night skies, and would pack the scenic road to Bryce Canyon with coal truck traffic. It could destroy the southernmost breeding ground of the greater sage-grouse, a species that is already struggling to survive in oil and gas country. The mine is projected to supply two million tons of dirty coal to power plants every year, emitting some 4.8 million tons of climate-killing carbon dioxide. Simply put, it will speed up a ticking climate change time-bomb.

NRDC has launched a courtroom action to challenge the approval of the destructive Alton coal mine project, but we need your help to fund this and many other environmental battles.

Today is the last day of our dedicated campaign to fight back against Trump's fossil fuel frenzy — and it's the very last opportunity to have your gift matched for twice the impact. Don't wait — rush an emergency gift to power NRDC's legal work and our fight to defend the environment on all fronts now.

The Trump administration has been relentless in its assault on our public lands, our country's natural heritage, and our planet's climate. And to make matters worse, the very officials tasked with protecting our public lands from industrial exploitation are doing anything but: mere days before his confirmation, now-Interior Secretary David Bernhardt was actually lobbying on behalf of the dirty fossil fuel companies who once were his clients.

But together we can fight back — destruction in the name of corporate greed is exactly what we here at NRDC are fighting against, and our legal team has been challenging the administration in court day in and day out to save our cherished national parks, monuments, coastlines and other public lands.

Your support right now will go twice as far to help us do that — but only until the midnight deadline.

Challenging the Alton coal mine is just one of the critical fights we're embroiled in against this administration. We are also in court to beat back Trump's attempts to strip protections from awe-inspiring national monuments like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante. The courts are our best chance to save these special places, but we can only keep these lawsuits going — and ramp up for the ones ahead — if people like you step up and help.

It takes one minute to send an emergency gift, and until midnight tonight, every single dollar you send will be doubled to have 2X the impact.

We've got to stand and fight for our public lands while we still have them. Because if we stay silent, I promise you — our country's wilderness will look VERY different in the coming years.

Thanks for supporting us in this fight.

Sincerely,

Sharon Buccino
