Dear John,
As the former Mayor of Monterey Park and as a current City Council Member, I've worked closely with Congressmember Chu for years, and I'm here to tell you she embodies the best of our community. Time and again, I've seen her advocate for Monterey Park residents and all of her constituents. She's shown up with us to celebrate, to grieve, and to deliver the real results we need.
She is American through and through — and Republicans questioning her loyalty are racist and dangerous.
As an Asian American elected official in a plurality-AAPI city, I'm committed to uplifting my community and ensuring they know they belong, they are valued, and their voice matters. This racist language undoes that work and tells young AAPI people that Congress or public service isn't for them.
Congressmember Chu got her start in politics fighting against a discriminatory English-only ordinance in Monterey Park, and for the last thirty years, she's worked to build inclusive systems that support all our communities. That's who she is and who she's always been.
Republicans in Congress may throw these racist accusations at her to diminish her voice, but she isn't backing down. She'll continue to show up to fight for our communities, as she has her entire career. Will you stand with her by making a donation today?
