Big 12 on the Hill

On Monday, I had the honor of addressing a large group of students from universities across the Big 12 conference, including our Baylor Bears. These students are all leaders in their respective Student Government Associations. These students are a testament to the remarkable intellectual and social talent present at these institutions of higher education.

ImageIt was clear from the students’ questions and comments that they are deeply committed to serving their communities and making a difference in the world.
During our conversation, I encouraged the student leaders to continue to pursue their goals and remain committed public service. It is my belief that with more brilliant minds like these students, we can achieve great things and make the world a better place for all.

200 Years of Texas Rangers

This week marks the 200th anniversary of the Texas Rangers! It is a momentous occasion and one we should all be proud of. We owe a great debt of gratitude to the countless men and women who have served, and are presently serving, in the Texas Rangers. Their commitment and dedication to law and order have kept our communities safe and free from harm.

ImageFormed in March 1823, Texas Rangers are a beacon of strength and courage, providing safety and security to the citizens of Texas throughout the years. First serving as frontier law enforcement, today they are a premier law enforcement agency, revered and respected internationally.
On this bicentennial anniversary of the Texas Rangers, let us take a moment to remember their service and sacrifices. Let us remember the countless contributions they have made to our state and to our nation. Let us thank them for their service and for the commitment and dedication they have shown to keeping our communities safe.

All Hail the Lone Star State

March 2 marked Texas Independence Day. In 1836, brave men and women declared their freedom after defeating Santa Ana and the Mexican Army in the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Today, we celebrate our ongoing freedom and remember those who sacrificed their lives for our state.

We commemorate the courage and selflessness of those individuals who fought for our independence, and we celebrate their hard-fought victory against a formidable enemy. As Texans, we stand tall and proud, and together we express our commitment to our state and the value and virtue of freedom that has been passed down from generation to generation.
On this day, let us remember the sacrifices that our ancestors made including Davey Crockett, Cornell William Travis, and David Bowie. Let us stand in solidarity, united under one common cause, to ensure that the State of Texas remains free and independent. Let us celebrate the courage and strength of our people and our proud heritage. All hail the mighty State of Texas!

Upgrades in Kosse

I am proud to have secured federal funding to expand the Kosse Volunteer Fire Department. This project will provide much needed resources to Limestone County, allowing for better emergency services for all residents. Thank you to Kosse Mayor Brooks Valls and Limestone County Judge Richard Duncan for your support and for bringing this request to my attention.

ImageThe expansion of the Kosse VFD is a major accomplishment for Limestone County, and I am proud to have been a part of it. I look forward to continuing to work with Judge Duncan and Mayor Brooks in the future to ensure that Limestone County has the resources it needs. We must ensure that our citizens are safe and have access to the resources they need in the event of an emergency. Together, we can make a difference in our community.
