Sperm counts have been dropping for decades, and the decline has only gotten worse in recent years. Stress, diet, excess weight, and hormone-disrupting chemicals are all to blame. But men generally still have enough sperm to have a baby, even if it does mean trying for longer. So is the sperm count decline even an issue? Yes, without a doubt. Low sperm counts (and concentration and motility) are the canary in the coal mine for overall poor men’s health. Even if you’re done having kids, low sperm count is your body’s way of waving a red flag and begging you to please, please, prioritize your health.
