Protecting Americans' Retirement Savings

A recent regulatory action by President Biden’s Department of Labor allows retirement account managers to force the administration's woke climate agenda on middle-class Americans through environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing.

This harmful rule would give asset managers the power to prioritize a political agenda at the expense of Americans' hard-earned retirement savings.

That's why Congressman Andy Barr and I introduced H.J.Res. 30, a resolution that would nullify this rule under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) and protect retirement savings from politically motivated mismanagement.

I spoke on the House floor in support of this resolution, which passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support this week and now heads to the president's desk.

Pushing Back on Burdensome Regulations

At President Biden's direction, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently finalized changes to the agency's existing Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

This new rule would greatly expand the authority of the government to determine what can be considered a 'navigable water' and be regulated as such under federal law.

I am concerned about the negative effects of this change for our small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, home and infrastructure builders, local communities, water districts, and private property owners.

That's why I co-sponsored a joint resolution of disapproval, which would terminate the administration's new WOTUS rule under the Congressional Review Act.

The federal government's role should be to fuel growth for hardworking Americans; not constrain our economy with burdensome regulations.

Reining In Inflation

With annual inflation hovering near 40-year highs thanks to President Biden's misguided economic policies, Congress must take action to limit wasteful spending in order to combat rising prices. That is why I proudly voted to pass H.R. 347, the REIN IN Act earlier this week.

This legislation would require the White House to publish a report on how executive orders will affect inflation before they are enacted.

Because so many of President Biden's harmful economic policies have been enacted by Executive Order, this bill would provide transparency and oversight over the administration.

On Thursday, I was glad to participate in Read Across America Day by reading to a class at W. S. Hornsby Elementary School. As a member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, promoting childhood literacy remains one of my very top priorities.

And on Friday, I received a brief from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at J. Strom Thurmond Dam at Clark's Hill Lake about the management of the lake, operations, and its waterflow into the Savannah River.
