Tonight is the membership deadline for LCV's Summer Membership Drive.

This deadline is a big one. Last month, a major donor offered to put up $500,000 to power environmental campaigns this year — but only if 10,000 members also pitched in before midnight on 7/31.

Friend — we're 189 short right now. We are SO, SO close. If everyone reading this right now pitched in, we'd blow through that goal. Even $5 donations count — ANYTHING you can give makes a huge difference.

Can we count you in? Renew your membership with LCV today for $5 or more »

I hope you're with us on this, because this moment — right now — is a huge one for the environment.

Here's the situation: Lawmakers in the House just successfully added provisions to the Defense Department budget that would help fight climate change and curb the use of dangerous PFAS chemicals.

This defense bill is considered "must-pass" — and the White House has threatened a veto, setting up a showdown that puts the whole military budget on the line.

LCV teams have been meeting on Capitol Hill to make sure these pro-environment provisions stay in. The conferenced bill is quickly coming up for a vote, and we need every possible resource to keep these amendments in.

I'm hoping we can count on your help — if we win now, this could really be huge for the environment.

Your membership makes this work possible, friend — but winning this Senate vote isn't the only reason we're counting on you. Here are a few other reasons I hope we'll hear from you before tonight's deadline:
  1. Because LCV is suing the Trump Administration. Three months ago, we won our case to block the Trump administration's plans for drilling in the Arctic Ocean and key portions of the Atlantic. The administration just filed a last-minute emergency appeal, which means we're going back to court. If we win, it means we secure permanent offshore drilling ban for huge parts of our oceans, but we need to stay on top of every new threat, procedural trick, and legal loophole that the Trump administration is exploiting — We can't do any of it without your help, friend.
  2. Because Keystone XL just got a green light. Just a few weeks ago, a three-judge panel lifted an injunction that had blocked Keystone XL pipeline construction. TransCanada, the developer on the project, has said it's too late to begin construction this year, meaning we still have a short window to block this pipeline before they start work again. We need to mobilize — and fast. We've blocked Keystone before, and this is a fight I know we can win again. But only if we have you.
  3. Because THIS is our moment to get climate change on the presidential agenda. With only 10 years to solve the climate crisis, the 2020 presidential election is the last, best chance for the U.S. to confront this crisis head on. With the debates starting this month, LCV is elevating climate action in the 2020 presidential primary elections and ensuring that no candidate becomes president without an ambitious plan to address the crisis on day one. Join us.
  4. Because your membership only costs $5 right now and it could unlock an additional $500,000 gift. Really, friend — any amount helps, and you can renew your membership today with a donation of just $5 »
I really hope we'll hear from you before midnight, friend. Thanks so much for everything that you do.

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski
