Friends,
It's been a busy start to the new year, and I'm proud of all we've accomplished in just the first few weeks of 2020. I introduced two new pieces of legislation that will keep housing affordable and protect Iowa jobs from outsourcing. I rolled out my new "Iowan of the Week" program and was recognized as the Most Accessible Freshman Member of Congress of 2019!
Protecting the Affordability of Iowa's Manufactured Housing Communities
I spoke to KCCI about my bill to keep manufactured housing affordable for Iowans. Watch the clip here.
Last year, I met with residents of Midwest Country Estates in Waukee after they faced up to 70% rent hikes. I told them that no Iowans should have to face the possibility of losing their home just so private equity companies can line their pockets with extra profits.
The Manufactured Housing Community Preservation Act will help keep manufactured housing communities affordable by providing resident co-ops, nonprofits, and other local entities the resources to acquire and preserve these communities. I introduced this legislation in my first week back in Washington to give Iowans the tools necessary to protect their affordable housing and guard against corporations spiking their rents.
Protecting Iowa Workers and Holding American Companies Accountable for Outsourcing
Last week, I also introduced the Offshoring Notification Act, a bill that will get assistance to Americans who have lost their jobs to outsourcing quicker and further protect American jobs by holding corporations accountable for sending jobs overseas.
After hundreds of Des Moines workers were laid off by Wells Fargo in November 2018, it took over a year for Trade Adjustment Assistance — which is meant to help workers who lost their jobs to outsourcing — to actually get certified for those employees. My bill would help expedite those workforce development resources while improving transparency and accountability of corporations.

Introducing "Iowan of the Week"!
Introducing the 'Iowan of the Week' certificate that you can find on my social media accounts
One of my favorite parts of representing Iowa’s Third Congressional District is the opportunity it gives me to celebrate outstanding and often unsung Iowans for their work to help improve Iowa.
This year, I will be honoring a new Iowan every week for helping their neighbors and making Iowa better by enshrining their contributions in the Congressional Record for future generations to see.
You can find my first three Iowans of the Week and all future honorees here and on my social media accounts.
If you have someone you think deserves to be Iowan of the Week, please write to my office to nominate them by clicking here.
Accepting Town Hall Project's "Most Accessible Freshman" Honor After 57 Town Halls in 2019
It has been my pleasure this past year to hold these 57 town halls across all 16 counties of Iowa’s Third District and meet with Iowans about what issues are concerning them.
After visiting every corner of my district, I was proud to receive the honor of Most Accessible Freshman Member of Congress of 2019 from Town Hall Project.
Hearing directly from Iowans across my district allows me to bring your voices to Washington and fight for solutions that are good for Iowa. To find a town hall near you, sign up for my newsletter or click here.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Thank you,
Cindy
