Dear John,
An exciting update from DC: we officially kicked off the House Agriculture Committee for the 118th Congress! It’s been an honor to represent Minnesota’s family farmers as a member of the Ag Committee for the past 4 years – and I’m excited to sit on this committee for a third term, especially as we head into Farm Bill season!
The Farm Bill is a big deal and impacts millions of people, including the 4,000 family farms located in the Second District. We only get a chance at writing this bill every 5 years – so, we’ve got to get this right. I’ve been spending a lot of time in listening sessions and meeting with my farmers to hear directly from them about what would be most helpful to include in this legislation.
Moving forward, I’ll be focused on ensuring our crop insurance programs are fully funded, protecting the next generation of farmers and will be looking at incentive-based climate change policies. These are priorities I’ve heard directly from our ag communities here in the Second District – and I’ll be working hard to incorporate them on a bipartisan basis into this legislation. I’m excited to get to work!
Here's what else I've been up to this week:
Hosting Town Hall #50 On Monday, I hosted my 50th Town Hall since being elected to office! It was great talking with Heather Tidd from Dakota Child and Family Clinic about how we can best work together to ensure all Minnesotans have access to the mental health and general health care they deserve. Thank you to everyone who joined!
Meeting with the American Legion Department of Minnesota
Our veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting our great nation and we owe them all a debt of gratitude. This week, I met with the American Legion Department of Minnesota to discuss how we can work together to ensure our veterans receive the support and care they deserve.
Re-introducing the PRO Act
America is strong when our middle class is strong – and our labor unions are a key part in that fight. This week, I was proud to help re-introduce the PRO Act to protect every American’s right to organize and collectively bargain.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
Taking you inside one of my favorite meetings of the week for today’s behind-the-scenes moment: spending some time with friend Rep. Diana DeGette’s new puppy, Fiona! We were even matching!
Well, that’s about it for me this week – I am wishing you all a relaxing weekend!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
