Dear Friend,
It feels good to be writing this March newsletter as we celebrate our first big win of 2023! On Monday night, our Ruth's List endorsed candidate, Sabina Covo, won her special election for the Miami City Commission. Ruth's List was Sabina's first organizational endorsement, and we played a critical role in coalescing Democratic party support behind her campaign. We know from experience, that when you get behind a candidate and give your full support, she can win.
That's why our mission at Ruth's List is so critical. We actively recruit and train women to run for office, giving them the tools they need to run successful, winning campaigns.
March is Women's History Month, and here at Ruth's List we are celebrating the accomplishments women have made throughout history, breaking barriers and opening doors for future generations, while also acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to achieve true gender equality.
Women are significantly underrepresented when it comes to public office in Florida. We have never elected a woman governor, and never had a woman speaker of the house. The main reason women are so underrepresented is that they don't run for office in the first place. Only one of every 8 women who consider running end up putting their name on the ballot.
Will you make a contribution in honor of Women's History Month to ensure we have the resources to encourage and support more women running for office?
The best way to celebrate Women's History Month is by fighting to protect and advance the rights of women across our state, and that means electing more Democratic women to state and local office. Your support is vital to our success and our ability to support women's leadership.
Onward,
