Mark Wahlberg: ‘God Came to Save Sinners’

By: Zachary Mettler

American actor and producer Mark Wahlberg recently joined the Today Show, telling host Savannah Guthrie that “God didn’t come to save the saints. He came to save the sinners.”

Wahlberg gave the interview on Ash Wednesday (February 22, 2023), a day which marks the beginning of the penitential 40-day season of Lent, leading up to Easter. Lent, typically marked by the three practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, is a time of repentance and preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Funny enough, the Today Show’s chyron referred to Lent as “Mark Wahlberg’s 40-Day Challenge.”

Regarding fasting, Wahlberg said that there can be different ways to fast. “God knows the things that he wants you to detach from,” Wahlberg said. “We all know those things that make us feel guilty … [we want] to focus on good habits as opposed to bad habits.”

“I do not deny my faith. That’s an even bigger sin,” Wahlberg said. “You know, it’s not popular in my industry. But you know, I cannot deny my faith. It’s important for me to share that with people.”

Christian School Girls Basketball Team Forfeits Tournament Game Over ‘Transgender’ Opponent

By: Bruce Hausknecht

The Mid Vermont Christian School girls basketball team, known as the Eagles, forfeited a state tournament playoff game last week to a team that was going to play a boy who claims to be a girl. “We withdrew from the tournament because we believe playing against an opponent with a biological male jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players,” Head of School Vicky Fogg told Fox News Digital. “Allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports sets a bad precedent for the future of women’s sports in general,” she added.

Vermont law not only allows males who claim to be females to play on female teams, it requires all schools participating in interscholastic sports to abide by the “gender identity” of its student athletes. In short, boys who claim to be girls must be allowed to play on girls teams in The Green Mountain State and everyone is required to play along with the lie as if it is truth.

After a successful regular season, the Eagles were scheduled to play the first round of the Division IV state tournament against the Long Trail School Mountain Lions but withdrew after Mid Vermont Christian’s administrators learned a boy was listed on the Mountain Lions’ roster. Support for the Eagles’ decision to stand on principle and forfeit their upcoming game quickly appeared on Twitter.

On Twitter, BethEllen wrote, “I can’t imagine how hard this was for them … wouldn’t it be great if all playoff teams refused to play. So proud of these young women.”

‘Jesus Revolution’ Exceeds Box Office Expectations — Plugged In Tells More About the Film

By: Jeff Johnston

In its opening weekend at the box office, Jesus Revolution brought in $15.8 million as it played in 2,475 theaters. The movie, based on the book Jesus Revolution by Pastor and Evangelist Greg Laurie, was the third-highest grossing movie in the country, right behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Cocaine Bear.

According to Focus on the Family’s Plugged In, the film’s opening exceeded expectations, as it was only expected to bring in somewhere between $6 to $7 million. The Daily Citizen spoke with Plugged In Director Adam Holz about the movie. Here’s the first part of our Q&A with him.

Daily Citizen: Jesus Revolution covers some of what was happening in Christianity in Southern California during the late 60s and early 70s. Tell us a little about the story.

Adam Holz: Jesus Revolution tells the intersecting story of three prominent members of the Jesus movement in the late 1960s and early ‘70s. Lonnie Frisbee is a hippie who’s grown weary of the counterculture’s failed promises and found Jesus.

Hitchhiking one day, Lonnie’s picked up by Janette Smith — the daughter of a struggling pastor named Chuck Smith. Chuck’s initially disdainful of Lonnie’s “hippie” ways, but soon sees that Lonnie deeply desires to help people know Jesus. Chuck invites Lonnie into his church, Calvary Chapel, where many more conservative members are aghast and leave. But the revival among primarily young, countercultural teens and young adults explodes.

Oxford Research Shows Mask Effectiveness Against COVID-19 Essentially Zero

By: Daily Citizen Staff

Government officials were simply following the best science when they required all citizens to wear masks in public for months on end over the COVID-19 pandemic. At least that was the story we were told at regular intervals. Anyone questioning this conclusion was a science-denier and was putting their fellow citizens at risk for a deadly virus, right? But was prescribing and requiring mask use actually following the best science? It is a question worth asking because it goes to being able to have honest, open debate about important policy and scientific issues. Something our children should learn is healthy.

Many questioned the conclusion that mask requirements were settled science. Others defended it. But a new, highly sophisticated medical research review authored by scholars at Oxford University and scores of other international medical schools answers this question with a very strong conclusion. And the strength of their conclusion will surprise many.

After examining 78 international studies looking at various aspects of mask use in multiple clinical, public- and private-life settings related to protection against the spread of viral respiratory illness, these scholars explain, “Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference” in protecting against COVID-19 and SARS-COV-2 infection “compared to not wearing masks.” These scholars even report that the higher quality “N95/P2 respirators compared to medical/surgical masks probably made little or no difference” in personal protection against spreading such illness.

Chick-fil-A Ban on Unaccompanied Minors Reflects Deteriorating Social Fabric of America

By: Paul Batura

After a string of controversial incidents, the owner-operator of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Royersford, Penn., recently announced plans to require anyone coming into their store under the age of sixteen to be accompanied by an adult.

“We contemplated long and hard before posting this, but decided it was time,” reads the statement on Facebook. “Often on Saturdays and days when schools are off, we have school-age children visiting the restaurant without their parents. Usually, these children and teens are dropped off for several hours at a local bounce park and groups of them then walk over to our restaurant.”

The statement continues:

“While we love being a community restaurant and serving guests of all ages, some issues need to be addressed.”

Management then listed a litany of issues, including vandalism, rudeness to employees and guests, and the use of profanity.

“To those unaccompanied children and teens that have visited us and acted appropriately, we thank you. But we also apologize. Due to the numerous extreme behaviors of many of your peers, we must make a blanket rule covering anyone under the age of 16.”

Chick-fil-A management then goes on to stress, “Parents, we are not blaming you. Children and teens are learning to navigate the world free from supervision and often push the boundaries. We simply can’t let them push those boundaries anymore at our restaurant.”
