Linking up City Centre Cycling Routes🚲
🚴♀️ Works continue at the Station Street/London Road junction on the latest phase of our City Centre Cycle routes, linking the east and west of the city with safe segregated cycling infrastructure.
Various, mainly off-peak lane closures will be required throughout the project as we complete the project to join the segregated cycleways nearby and install marked on road cycle lanes through the junction, improve pedestrian crossing facilities and more.

Last chance to give your view to the Local Cycling and Walking Improvement Plan
The LCWIP identifies the routes for which we would like to see investment in cycling and walking improvements over the next 15 years, both in Nottingham and neighbouring areas.
These include both new routes as well as improvements to existing infrastructure, so it meets current design standards. Once complete, this will create cycling and walking environments that are appealing and accessible to all, including horse riders wherever possible.
The LCWIP will be used to support funding bids in order to develop the proposed schemes identified for consideration, and then deliver if feasible.

Remembering Betty Higgins, Nottingham City Council's first woman leader and champion of Nottingham City Transport
Ahead of International Women's Day on Wednesday 8 March, let's remember Betty Higgins - the first woman leader of Nottingham City Council who led the Council from 1983-87 and again from 1991-93. Betty, a former teacher, was known for championing women’s voices and fighting to make sure that women were represented in public, civic and community life.
Did you ever wonder how Nottingham managed to hold onto our publicly owned bus company - Nottingham City Transport - when the vast majority of other cities and towns lost theirs to the Transport Act of 1986 which deregulated bus services.
It was because of Betty. She had the foresight to see that fighting to keep control of our buses was the right thing to do. Forty years later, Nottingham City Transport has just celebrated 125 years of public ownership and Nottingham has the best public transport system outside of London. And she also set into motion the visionary plans for our tram network, with the first line completed nearly 15 years after she stepped down as leader.
Betty died in 2019 at the age of 92. Nottingham City Transport's Yellow 68, 69 bus running between City, Basford and Bulwell is named in her honour.
