The Doomsday clock was developed in 1945 by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists who initially developed a countdown to mark the dangers of nuclear war and later expanded their analysis to include the existential threat of climate change.

The Doomsday Clock was set today to the closest to midnight in its 70-year history.

"We are now expressing how close the world is to catastrophe in seconds — not hours, or even minutes," Rachel Bronson, the Bulletin's president and CEO said in a statement. "We now face a true emergency — an absolutely unacceptable state of world affairs that has eliminated any margin for error or further delay."

The majority of scientists agree that climate change exists. The majority of the global community agrees the crisis is impacting us NOW. So, what are we going to do about it?

In 2016, BNC called for rapid reforms and the elimination of a carbon-based economy within10 years. We helped lay the groundwork for what is now the Green New Deal.

Millions have suffered because of massive floods, severe droughts, rising sea levels, food shortages, sweeping weather changes, and massive wildfires We can no longer talk about this as a problem for future generations.

We must demand that representatives pass immediate legislation. It is critical that we elect candidates in 2020 who understand--lives are at stake. The health of our planet and our communities are under immediate threat!
