The Yale- and Harvard-educated DeSantis is described as “Trump with a brain.” He traffics in the same white supremacy and grievance politics but without the buffoonery that made Trump such a political liability to Republicans among suburban, college-educated voters.

That’s why Ron DeSantis is so deeply dangerous — and must be stopped before it’s too late.

The coming weeks and months will be crucial for educating the American people about Ron DeSantis, as most Americans are just now learning about him for the first time. DeSantis has become a darling of Fox News and the right-wing media by pushing COVID-19 disinformation, attacking LGBTQ+ people and immigrants, and banning abortion. While these stunts to “own the libs” play well with Republican primary voters, his actual policy positions on issues will be much harder to explain.

For instance, DeSantis wants such draconian cuts in Social Security and Medicare that even Paul Ryan’s budget didn’t go far enough for him.

He also supports abolishing the federal income tax and replacing it with a nationwide 30% sales tax, which would massively raise taxes on the poor and middle class while handing a gigantic tax break to the very wealthiest Americans.

These are the wildly unpopular parts of DeSantis’s agenda that people need to hear about.
