Exploring how The Jungle changed industry standards

Dear John,

When Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle in 1906, he intended to shed light on the harsh conditions for workers and the unhealthy conditions in the meat packing industry. Progressive President Theodore Roosevelt urged Congress to regulate industry for the public welfare. Use this lesson to help your students to discover how The Jungle impacted the meat packing industry and safe food standards .
