As the finance director on Carolyn’s campaign, I spend a lot of time thinking about resources -- where our money is coming from and how we’re going to spend it to run the best, most inclusive campaign possible. So when I saw this headline last week, I decided to check the record. John, Carolyn’s opponent Jaime Herrera Beutler voted to give away $32 billion (that’s billion with a B) to the top six banks in America. There’s no excuse for this misallocation when it’s getting harder and harder for working families to cover costs like child care, housing, health care, and education. These funds could have been invested in local apprenticeship programs like those offered at Cascadia Tech Academy in Vancouver or for USDA loans to help more middle class families buy a home in our community.
I’m proud of the people-powered operation we’re running. But in just a week, our campaign is up against our end-of-month deadline -- and right now we’re not on track to hit our January fundraising goal.
Every dollar donated goes directly into helping us build a strong grassroots campaign that serves all Southwest Washingtonians. Thank you for helping us fuel this movement! -- Xavier |
