Dear Friend,
It’s been stunning to see how quickly the far-right Netanyahu government has moved to undermine Israel’s democratic safeguards and supercharge settlement growth in the West Bank.
Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have taken to the streets in protest of the government’s anti-democratic legislation. The government has moved forward major acts of annexation, including the “legalization” of unauthorized settlement outposts throughout the West Bank.
Meanwhile, terrible violence and conflict on the ground continue to escalate -- as this year has seen deadly terror attacks on Israelis and the highest monthly death toll for Palestinians in over a decade.
This is a moment of crisis. As pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy Americans, we are speaking out -- and need our elected officials to do the same.
In Congress, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), and Rep. Jim McGovern (MA-02) are circulating a new letter urging the Biden Administration to take continued, decisive action to address these crises.
“We urge you to use all diplomatic tools available to prevent Israel’s far-right government from further damaging the nation’s democratic institutions and undermining the potential for two states for two people,” the letter reads. “With the Knesset on the cusp of stripping the judiciary’s check over the far-right government, we urge you to make clear that the U.S. will firmly oppose any moves toward annexation that the Israeli government may pursue as a result.”

The letter commends the Biden Administration’s recent attempts to deescalate heightened tensions in Israel and the West Bank -- and emphasizes that further action is needed.
Together, our movement is showing both Congress and the Biden Administration that they must stand up to this far-right Netanyahu government and the terrible damage that it’s doing to both peoples.
We’re making clear that the majority of American Jews support Israel’s long-standing democracy, the founding ideals of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, and Israeli-Palestinian peace.
Thank you,
Kevin Rachlin
