John -
We wanted to quickly update you on the outside group that just launched ads in our district. Earlier this week, we said that they had reserved $200,000 in ad buys.
But it was just reported that “American Workers for Progress” has reserved $720,000 between now and election day.
What’s more, they’ve made clear they intend to remain anonymous. They’re using a loophole to obscure who they are by claiming these are not electoral ads.
The flow of dark money represents the corrupt status quo that Henry Cuellar has protected over his long career. He’s more interested in protecting the special interests who fund his campaign than fighting for real change for the people of South Texas.
Although we don’t know who’s behind these ads, we know about who’s been funding his campaign and who he’s been voting to protect, so we’ve got a few guesses — but we want to hear what you think.
Take our poll: who do you think is funding Cuellar’s ad buy? Click below and your vote will be immediately recorded.
The only documentation of this group is a single webpage with generic, empty rhetoric. So your guess is as good as ours.
We’ll keep you posted when we know more.
