Hi John,
According to the latest figures, Amazon is making $1.3 billion every single day. It’s a shocking amount of money for a single company, but as Amazon increasingly monopolises the retail market, its revenues are rocketing, along with the net worth of founder Jeff Bezos, who was the world’s first ‘centibillionaire’. It’s a sharp contrast to Amazon’s warehouse workers who do long hours for low pay.

At our Resisting Monopoly Capitalism ([link removed]) conference on 25 March, we’ll be discussing Amazon and other tech giants with a striking Amazon worker and Parminder Jeet Singh, director of IT for Change in India. From tax avoidance to carbon footprints, to the whole model of unaccountable data-driven corporate power, we’ll be coming together to understand problems of monopoly capitalism and how we can challenge it. Will you be there too?

Other international speakers who will be joining us include João Paulo Rodrigues of Brazil’s Landless Workers Movement, Julia Kosgei from Kenya, a policy adviser to the People’s Vaccine Alliance; Nick Shaxson, author of tax haven takedown Treasure Islands, and Finance Curse; and Aurélie Trouvé, the parliamentary chair of France’s left opposition coalition NUPES.

With this conference, we'll be discussing what monopoly capitalism is and how it creates inequality and injustice, and exploring ways to fight back and organise for a different world.

There will be sessions on the impacts of corporate concentration in agriculture, tech and pharmaceuticals, and we'll also consider the link between monopoly capitalism and both political authoritarianism and climate breakdown. Our organising workshops will focus on how we build a movement-based strategy to challenge monopoly power, and on Extinction Rebellion's mobilisation in April.

Will you come along and be part of this important conference?

** Help with taking part
------------------------------------------------------------
We know it can be difficult for people to make a conference like this, so we’re trying to make it as easy as possible. We have a fund for help with childcare costs – if this is of interest to you, please let me know as soon as possible by replying to this email.

We're really looking forward to seeing members and supporters in person at this conference, as we won’t just be listening to speakers, but having discussions about the way forward and running organising spaces. However, if you can’t make it, we can now confirm you will be able to watch the opening and closing plenaries (11am and 4.30pm) streamed online as they happen. If you'd only like to hear about online ways to join, let us know here.
