Hi,
We just put out a new report showing that free open textbooks have saved students more than $300 million over the last decade. That's huge for students!
If you haven't yet, sign our petition to support an open textbook grant program on your campus now!
Our new report is a first of its kind review of open textbook grant progams across the country and provides recommendations for campuses interested in starting their own programs to expedite adoption of open educational resources (OER), which are high quality openly licensed course materials that are free for students to access.
Key findings from the report include:
- Every dollar invested in OER Grants can save students $10 – $20 dollars
- Grant Programs started during the pandemic have already saved students more than $2.5 million dollars.
- To ensure success, new grant programs should build a team to support the program and establish a consistant record keeping system.
The Student PIRGs have a nearly 20-year history of researching the textbook marketplace and making recommendations for policymakers, students, faculty, and campus administrators in our mission to ensure that every student has access to the high quality learning materials they need — at little-to-no cost.
Check out and share our new report Open Textbooks: The Billion Dollar Solution!
