Hi John,
I’m in Washington, D.C., today, and I just left the White House. I am so honored to have been invited to the White House’s historic ‘Communities in Action: Building a Better Minnesota’ event along with only 49 other Minnesotan community leaders, where I spoke about the Boundary Waters.
I got to meet with leaders in D.C. and from across our state who are making a positive difference, including mayors, county representatives, and leaders in labor, environment, affordable housing, and community action organizations.
I told the White House group about Secretary Deb Haaland's recent 20-year ban on mining near the Boundary Waters and highlighted just how popular and accessible the Wilderness is providing a critical connection to nature experiences for youth from around the country.
Thanks to the recent decision, this embattled wilderness finally has a semblance of the protections it deserves, but there's still work to do. We must make the Boundary Waters a forever Wilderness by pushing for permanent protection of this beloved landscape to prevent any future threats from toxic sulfide-ore copper mining. In the words of the Star Tribune’s Editorial Board, “permanent protection still must be implemented to prevent future chicanery from undoing BWCA protections or letting them expire.”
That’s where I need your help . Despite the recent positive news for the Boundary Waters, we are up against some very scary and real attacks on Canoe Country from anti-Wilderness cronies in Congress. You can help by making a one-time gift to protect the Boundary Waters today. [[link removed]] These powerful forces will stop at nothing to derail Boundary Waters protections.
