Colleague–

My quick take on last night’s debate: It was stunning that only 7% of the 165-minute debate touched on national security or foreign policy. That’s why this morning I’m releasing my own "Open Letter to the Candidates" for president and Congress:

"What your pollsters may not know about America and foreign policy”

Everywhere I travel, voters want to talk about how engaging globally matters locally – from global competition with China to fighting the spread of Ebola. They get that these are kitchen table issues.

Domestic issues certainly matter, but in a battle for Commander in Chief, voters want to hear more than 12 minutes on foreign policy, especially on the same day that North Korea launched a missile! CNN knows better, and I hope it changes tonight.

Let me know to your thoughts – and hope you will share the letter as well.

Best,

Liz
