Friend,

As a diabetic, I need insulin to survive. Last week, the pump I use every day broke.

Welcome to a day in the life of a type 1 diabetic. My insulin pump failed this morning. It’s going to cost me $1,500 out-of-pocket to get a new one (I have health insurance). This is healthcare in America, and this is what needs to be fixed.

In order to get a new pump, here’s what I had to go through:

→ $1,500 in medical bills
→ Four medical calls
→ Two hours on hold
→ Five forms to sign
→ Minimum two weeks wait for a new one

When I took to Twitter to share my experience, I heard from many others about the problems they have faced when their equipment fails.

This is what healthcare in the U.S. looks like, and it is wrong. That’s why I’m running for Congress to fix it.
