Looking to get more involved in local climate action? Take a minute to read about 350Brooklyn's current campaigns below and learn about how you can get involved!

Stop the money pipeline

350Brooklyn is taking on fossil fuel financiers. And we need your help to make the most impact on this important issue.

Stop the Money Pipeline (stopthemoneypipeline.com) is a national campaign targeting Chase, BlackRock, Wells Fargo and Liberty Mutual for their financing of fossil fuel.

Chase is far and away the biggest offender, investing $195 billion in fossil fuels... just since the Paris Climate Accord.

We can make them change. BlackRock’s recently announced divestment from coal and their promise to prioritize sustainability proves it!

The campaign will culminate in a series of national actions on April 23, following the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

The campaign’s first meeting will be Sunday, January 26 at 4pm at the Commons Cafe, 388 Atlantic Ave.

To get involved, email [email protected] with the subject line “Chase.”

City Action

On January 27, members of 350Brooklyn’s City Action Sub-committee will join with Just Leadership USA (JLUSA) and other groups to deliver testimony in support of the Renewable Rikers act.

Please join us by participating in Council Member Action this week, contact [email protected] (BK Council Person in subject line) for letter and talking points.

Monday, January 27, there will be a City Hall hearing in the Council Chambers. We would love to have a big presence wearing 350Brooklyn t-shirts! Contact Georgi, if you want to attend: [email protected].

Action in Albany

We helped pass the groundbreaking Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act last year. This legislation puts New York on track for net zero carbon by 2050.

Now we are demanding this year’s state budget include a one billion dollar downpayment to get New York started with CLCPA.

Join us -- and the NYRenews coalition -- for a day of Albany action on January 27.

There is a free bus from NYC to Albany, and lots of great stuff planned, so RSVP here to make the trip!

Climate Wednesdays: Return Engagement!

After raves for our Autumn programming, Climate Wednesdays returns to Brooklyn’s Central Library with four new events.

Our first is February 12, “Our Bodies, Our Planet: Public Health and the Climate Crisis."

Click here for all the details.

Say No, Cuomo

On the Williams Pipeline, Governor Cuomo needs to listen to the CLCPA, not National Grid.

Cuomo was a climate hero last fall when National Grid held New Yorkers hostage by denying gas hookups to get their Williams pipeline approved. The Governor called them out, fined them, and ordered them to reconnect their customers.

But Cuomo went from hero to goat when he put National Grid back in charge of creating an energy plan that puts the Williams Pipeline back in play.

Tell Governor Cuomo to follow to the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act — not listen to a for-profit utility with no incentive to push for renewables — to determine New York’s energy future.

What’s the Deal with Jeffries?

While almost all NYC-area members of Congress support the Green New Deal, our own Rep. Hakeem Jeffries continues to ignore the climate crisis.

Join us outside Rep. Jeffries' “State of the District” event as we call on Jeffries to support the Green New Deal. We will rally and provide information to his constituents about the climate crisis and the benefits of the GND.

February 3, beginning at 6:15pm
Brooklyn Technical High School: 29 Fort Greene Place, Brooklyn

Plastics Campaign

Single-use plastics such as water bottles, straws, to-go containers, and cutlery are made from fossil fuels, are not biodegradable, and are harmful to animals and the environment. Our committee works on educational campaigns, actions ,and lobbying efforts to help end single-use plastics in New York State and beyond.

Just rezoning for Gowanus

As part of the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for Justice (GNCJ), we are working to ensure that New York City’s largest rezoning in 20 years is just, fair, and good for the climate.

Our goal: establish the Gowanus as the city’s first Environmental Justice Special District.

The Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process is expected to begin in 2020, which will mean lots of advocacy in the coming months to ensure our criteria are met.

Join us in this important work by emailing [email protected].

Green New York

The Movement for a Green New Deal in New York State calls for 100% renewable energy now, a stop to all fossil fuel infrastructure, public power for all, and taxing the rich to fund a just transition.

We have many opportunities for canvassing, organizing town halls, and local lobbying.

Please email [email protected] to be in the loop on this effort.
