March 2023
John:
Have you been following the incredible revelations that have come out of the new subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government?
It's no surprise to learn details confirming how Twitter has functioned as an arm of the federal government, suppressing conservative voices and any news story that is unfavorable to the left.
There's a lot of intensive work happening behind the scenes to prepare for these hearings and keep the public updated. This underscores the need for competent, dedicated congressional staff.
Training congressional staff is a core part of CPI's mission, and in our new annual report out this month, you'll see we did a lot of it in 2022.
In this update, we also share some of the highlights of February 2023, which included our most important event of the year, our Winter Leadership Conference.

Governor DeSantis, Members of Congress, Share Plans at Winter Leadership Conference
|
|
In February, CPI brought together some of the brightest minds leading the conservative movement for our annual Winter Leadership Conference.
House Freedom Caucus members and movement leaders participated in the conference on Feb. 10-12 in Orlando, FL.
Key panelists and speakers included: Reps. Chip Roy, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Ralph Norman, Anna Paulina Luna, Eli Crane, and Senator Mike Lee, Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, comedian Benny Johnson, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The Winter Leadership Conference was preceded by CPI's annual Conservative Members Retreat—an educational and strategy retreat for members of Congress.
Here are highlights:
- The importance of conservatives not remaining neutral on cultural battles and instead asserting what is morally good in the context of entertainment, culture and education.
- Highlights from new members of Congress from their first few weeks in Washington, and a recap of the fight over House Speaker.
- Insight from innovators in the movement who are standing up to the Left's aggressive tactics—from censorship to blacklisting—and helping others do the same.
- An update from the Election Integrity Network and the State Freedom Caucus Network, two CPI Partner groups who have made exceptional gains over the past year in stopping leftist policies and election schemes.
- Current and potential opportunities to demand a transparent and accountable government through the 118th Congress' new committee on the weaponization of the federal government.

A Detroit School Board Tries to Cancel Dr. Ben Carson
|
|
In November 2022, the Detroit School Board stripped Ben Carson's name from one of two schools named after him: the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine.
Dr. Carson's decades of service as a gifted neurosurgeon don't matter to the school board. Because he served in the Trump administration, the left was quick to cancel him.
In response, Dr. Carson's organization, American Cornerstone Institute, issued a National Statement Against Cancel Culture that you can review and co-sign.

In February, CPI Studios set up a mobile studio in Orlando, Florida to allow attendees at our Winter Leadership Conference, including Rep. Andy Biggs and newly elected Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, to conduct live and pre-recorded TV and radio hits for major news outlets.
In between sessions at the conference, Rep. Luna joined Fox News to discuss the spy balloon and national security threats.
