John, when five
of the Memphis officers who brutally beat Tyre Nichols to death were
charged with murder within weeks, it was the fastest that we’ve ever seen
officers prosecuted for their violence. And it was our DA, Steve Mulroy,
who made it happen, after we helped elect him last year over one of the
most corrupt DAs in the country.

It’s so rare for police to be prosecuted AT ALL for their violence. In
fact: statistics show that fewer than 3% of killings by police officers
result in officers being charged.

It’s absolutely outrageous — especially coming off the deadliest year for
police violence ever.

Over the years, we’ve only seen an increase in police violence, even as
we’re screaming at the top of our lungs for systemic change and real
public safety.

The issue is beyond exhausting. And even though 3% isn’t a big starting
point, that 3% of cops being charged and justice being served comes down
to local prosecutors in that area.

John, DAs are incredibly
important in our criminal legal system because they have the power to hold
police accountable. In fact, our DAs have helped hold over 100 police
officers accountable since 2017.

And that’s why we endorsed Parisa Dehghani-Tafti for Arlington and Falls
Church Commonwealth’s Attorney, four years ago. She promised to support an
independent review mechanism for whenever police use force. She kept her
word and within 18 months of taking office, her jurisdiction had a
Critical Incident Response Team and a Community Oversight Board in the
works — firsts in the history of her community.

This is why we are supporting Parisa for re-election, and why we are
building on our work by continuing to recruit, elect, and defend DAs just
like her in every corner of this county.

And at this very moment, Parisa is facing a challenge from the same type
of conservative forces that recalled Chesa Boudin in San Francisco and
also tried to recall Parisa.

build on the progress she’s made in Virginia. Will you make a split
contribution right now between Parisa’s campaign and Real Justice to boost
her campaign efforts and our work in electing more DAs like her?

As you may have noticed, if there isn’t national attention or local
residents pressuring the DA to press charges, cops often go free after
they commit a crime.

For every Botham Jean, Atatianna Jefferson, or George Floyd whose killers
have been convicted of murder, there are thousands more whose families
will grieve without an ounce of justice.

We shouldn’t have to take to the streets, protest en masse, or have
hundreds of thousands of people sign petitions to get the attention we
need to demand that cops be held responsible for their actions —
especially when they murder those they are supposedly hired to protect.

We need DAs with the dignity and bravery to stand in front of police
unions and corrupt lawmakers, and do the right thing by prosecuting cops
who commit crimes. We need DAs that will issue real legal consequences.

Simply put, we need more DAs like Parisa. More DAs like her will eradicate
that feeling of impunity in the way cops behave and pave the way for real
public safety.

[ [link removed] ]Our communities depend on all of us to make the right choices and
elect the right prosecutors in power. Will you make a contribution right
now to Parisa’s campaign and Real Justice to boost our efforts in electing
and defending DAs that will hold cops to account when they act above the
law?

In solidarity,

Real Justice
