Dear John, Some members of Congress are moving over the next couple of weeks to attack clean water protections. Through a process known as “Congressional Review Act '' they are voting for a resolution that would overturn the recent “Waters of the US '' rule finalized by the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this past December. If the resolution goes through, it would remove long standing federal clean water protections for critical tributaries, wetlands, and other water bodies. The science is clear: downstream waterways are only as clean as their upstream tributaries and wetlands. Allowing pollution of those waters would threaten downstream drinking water and local economies and businesses dependent on clean water. From breweries to ecological restoration, real estate and lodging to shellfish harvesters and sustainable farmers, the businesses that power our economy and support our communities need the same thing as our own families do – strong safeguards for clean water and our health. Please join us in urging the House of Representatives and the Senate to oppose this ruling by signing on here. Thank you! | |
