During the district work period, Congresswoman Manning met with school officials, mental health professionals, and teachers to discuss her work in Congress to improve mental health resources in schools and to celebrate the federal funding coming to public schools in the Sixth District.
Mental Health in Schools Roundtable
Congresswoman Manning hosted Sixth District educators, administrators, and mental health professionals for a roundtable discussion on mental health in North Carolina Sixth District schools.
"The long-lasting impacts of the pandemic and pressures from social media are taking a toll on students. Now more than ever, we must prioritize their wellbeing," said Congresswoman Manning.
Congresswoman Manning shared information about her bill, the Improving Mental Health and Wellness in Schools Act, which would integrate mental health promotion and education into existing local school wellness policies.
Manning Secures Federal Funding for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools' Teacher Academy
Congresswoman Manning secured $301,500 in federal funding for Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools' Teacher Academy, a training program focused on recognizing, rewarding, and retaining classroom teachers.
Congresswoman Manning joined the Teacher Academy to celebrate the funding, which allows them to continue operations through the 2023-2024 school year.
The federal funding was secured by Congresswoman Manning through the appropriations process known as Community Funding Projects. For more information on the Community Funding Projects process, click here.
Rockingham County Schools
At Rockingham County Community College, Congresswoman Manning met with College President Mark Kinlaw and John Stover, Superintendent of Rockingham County Schools, to discuss her work on the Education and Workforce Committee and her commitment to establishing workforce development programs that prepare students for jobs in our modern economy.
Manning Secures Federal Funding for Guilford County Schools
Congresswoman Manning also secured $2.2 million in federal funding for Guilford County Schools to expand learning hubs to the County's 22 middle school campuses. Last year, Congresswoman Manning secured funding for learning hubs on high school campuses. Watch below for more information.
