Supporting NC-06 Schools

During the district work period, Congresswoman Manning met with school officials, mental health professionals, and teachers to discuss her work in Congress to improve mental health resources in schools and to celebrate the federal funding coming to public schools in the Sixth District. 

Mental Health in Schools Roundtable

Congresswoman Manning hosted Sixth District educators, administrators, and mental health professionals for a roundtable discussion on mental health in North Carolina Sixth District schools.

"The long-lasting impacts of the pandemic and pressures from social media are taking a toll on students. Now more than ever, we must prioritize their wellbeing," said Congresswoman Manning. 

Congresswoman Manning shared information about her bill, the Improving Mental Health and Wellness in Schools Act, which would integrate mental health promotion and education into existing local school wellness policies.

Manning Secures Federal Funding for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools' Teacher Academy 

Congresswoman Manning secured $301,500 in federal funding for Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools' Teacher Academy, a training program focused on recognizing, rewarding, and retaining classroom teachers.

Congresswoman Manning joined the Teacher Academy to celebrate the funding, which allows them to continue operations through the 2023-2024 school year. 

The federal funding was secured by Congresswoman Manning through the appropriations process known as Community Funding Projects. For more information on the Community Funding Projects process, click here

Rockingham County Schools

At Rockingham County Community College, Congresswoman Manning met with College President Mark Kinlaw and John Stover, Superintendent of Rockingham County Schools, to discuss her work on the Education and Workforce Committee and her commitment to establishing workforce development programs that prepare students for jobs in our modern economy.

Manning Secures Federal Funding for Guilford County Schools

Congresswoman Manning also secured $2.2 million in federal funding for Guilford County Schools to expand learning hubs to the County's 22 middle school campuses. Last year, Congresswoman Manning secured funding for learning hubs on high school campuses. Watch below for more information.

Alongside Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley, Congresswoman Manning celebrated the federal funding she secured through the Community Funding Projects process for Guilford County Schools.

Greensboro Chamber of Commerce 
Congresswoman Manning attended the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Annual Celebration at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. 
Congresswoman Manning was glad to hear from the chamber regarding their recent successes in attracting businesses to the region and their ongoing efforts to ensure the local economy remains strong.

City of Eden 
Congresswoman Manning met with Mayor Neville Hall and other officials from the City of Eden. She remains committed to working with every community across North Carolina's Sixth District to represent their interests in Congress.

International Civil Rights Center and Museum Speaker Series
During Black History Month, the International Civil Rights Center and Museum hosted a Civil Rights Speaker Series featuring influential civic leaders.
Congresswoman Manning attended the speaker series event featuring former Bennett College President, Dr. Johnnetta Cole.

News from Washington D.C.

Manning Elected Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee 

Congresswoman Manning was elected Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee for the 118th Congress. In her second term on the Committee, she will also continue to serve on the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia Subcommittee and the Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations Subcommittee.

The Foreign Affairs Committee plays a vital role in ensuring that the United States remains a global leader as we work to strengthen democracy worldwide, promote diplomacy, and maintain the global order,” said Congresswoman Kathy Manning.

Honoring the Greensboro Four 

Congresswoman Kathy Manning and Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12), alongside Democratic North Carolina Representatives Don Davis (NC-01), Deborah Ross (NC-02), Valerie Foushee (NC-04), Wiley Nickel (NC-13), and Jeff Jackson (NC-14), introduced a resolution honoring the leaders of the Greensboro Four Sit-In of 1960 and recognizing the start of Black History Month.

The resolution celebrates the Greensboro Four – also known as the A&T Four – and the many other students from North Carolina A&T State University, Bennett College, and Dudley High School who participated in the sit-in movement. It also encourages all states to include this historical account in their education curriculum. Additionally, the resolution recognizes February 1st as the start of Black History Month.

North Carolina Farm Bureau 

Leaders at the North Carolina Farm Bureau met with Congresswoman Manning in her Washington D.C. office to discuss the needs of producers in Guilford, Rockingham, Caswell, and Forsyth Counties in the upcoming Farm Bill.

Last year, Congresswoman Manning was awarded the ‘Friend of Farm Bureau’ Award from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) for her work to support farmers and the agricultural industry during the 117th Congress. Read more here.
