Dear John,

Every day millions of Americans inhale air pollution from burning fossil fuels. This air pollution includes fine particle pollution — a dangerous emission more commonly known as soot.

These tiny, airborne particles can lodge in the lungs and enter the bloodstream causing serious health complications. It’s a big problem, but we have a way to fight back.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking steps to reduce soot’s impact on our communities. But to protect our health we need them to do even more! Submit a public comment and urge the EPA to set stronger standards to stop health-harming soot pollution. [link removed]

Soot causes over 110,000 deaths in the U.S. each year and exposure has been linked to a variety of health issues including asthma, heart attacks, strokes – even cancer. And the harm is not distributed equally.

Exposure to soot is especially harmful to children and elderly people — but its impacts are magnified in communities of color. Recent studies show that Black Americans 65 and older are three times more likely to die from exposure to fine particle air pollution than white Americans over 65.

However, the same analysis finds that stronger air pollution limits would save thousands of lives each year and deliver significant health benefits, especially for Black, Hispanic and low-income communities.

By taking action we can save thousands of lives each year. Raise your voice and demand stronger protections and cleaner air. [link removed]

Thank you for your leadership,
