People like Walid, in northwestern Syria, need help now

Dear friend,
Last month, while distributing emergency supplies in northwestern Syria following multiple powerful earthquakes that struck the region, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams were approached by a man named Walid.
Walid is 68 years old and walks with a cane—but he wasn’t there for himself. He was collecting supplies to support his two sons and their families, who had recently been displaced from their homes in Jinderis by the earthquake and were now living in his home in the town of Termanin. "My house has two rooms, and is now hosting three families," Walid said, "We do not have enough blankets, heaters, and other essential items to cover the needs of three families."
MSF staff were able to send Walid home with the supplies he needed that day, but the unfortunate reality is that Walid and his family’s struggle is far from over.
Walid is no stranger to crisis. Before settling in Termanin, he had been displaced from Ma'art Alnoa'man due to Syria’s ongoing, decade-long war. Today, even as he seeks to support his sons and their families, Walid faces another, much more personal crisis: he is a cancer patient, and the recent earthquake has cut him off from the treatment he was receiving in Turkey (officially renamed Türkiye).
Walid’s precarious situation epitomizes an unfortunate reality that MSF staff bear witness to every day in the places we work around the world: disasters don’t wait their turn, and many strike communities that are already experiencing or recovering from other emergencies like conflict, disease outbreaks, and lack of access to health care.
--- All gifts given, up to $250,000, will be doubled through 11:59 p.m. EST on March 7. Every dollar you give will be matched with $1. Gifts received after the match has been met will not be matched but will be used where needed most.
