Here’s how their fighting to protect our families and communities
“We have to start loving our kids more than we love our guns.” That’s what Michigan AG Dana Nessel said after a gunman killed three students and injured five others at Michigan State University earlier this month, friend.
AG Nessel first heard about the attack from her two sons, who are both students at MSU and were on campus. For her, this isn’t something she only had to address as the top law enforcement official in the state — this is something she lived with as a parent.
Even before the shooting at Michigan State, there were comprehensive gun safety initiatives on the brink of being passed into law in Michigan: universal background checks, red flag laws, and safe and secure storage. Now AG Nessel is fighting harder than ever to get the job done.
These proposals aren’t political grandstanding or empty promises, friend. We’ve already seen how measures like red flag laws can be used to address gun violence in Colorado, where these measures have already allowed law enforcement to respond to fears of suicide, violence, and threats of mass shootings. Now, Colorado AG Phil Weiser is leading the charge to expand red flag laws even further to help law enforcement provide greater support and awareness to citizens about taking action.
Dem AGs like Weiser and Nessel and others are making it clear that they will stop at nothing until we have common sense gun safety measures in place to keep our kids, ourselves, and our communities safe from these senseless attacks.
AGs Weiser and Nessel aren’t alone. In Maryland, Dem AG Anthony Brown is using his office to push for smart, common sense gun safety policies. This is why we need to elect Dem AGs across the country. They’re on the front lines protecting our families every single day.
Thanks,
Democratic AGs
