Dear Friend --

You might have heard yesterday that the effort to repeal HB6 has ended.

Ohioans for Corporate Bailouts filed a motion to dismiss its appeal before the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals and end its pursuit of additional time to collect signatures and place the issue on the ballot.

Sadly, this means Ohioans will not have the final say on whether they pay to bail out nuclear plants, subsidize coal plants, roll back renewable energy standards, and eliminate energy efficiency programs.

You can read my full statement here <[link removed]>.

We never gave up the fight

Ohio Citizen Action and Ohio Consumers Power Alliance opposed House Bill 6 since Day One and we had a lot of company.

During the legislative debate alone, we helped 10,726 Ohioans call or write to their legislators opposing the bailout. We even helped in the final days of the petition drive, collecting thousands of signatures despite our opposition’s use of blockers and confusing fake petitions and $16 million spent on political ads.

Still reason to hope

We may have lost the battle on House Bill 6, but we learned a valuable lesson: if we want to speed the inevitable transition to renewable energy, we must do it ourselves.

Already local communities are moving across the state to reduce carbon emissions, save customers money and invest in clean energy innovation. Ohio Citizen Action and Ohio Consumers Power Alliance are ready to build on this momentum by connecting you and your neighbors to guide local leaders toward a clean energy future for your community.

To combat the cynicism and disappointment that accompanies this news, we would love to hear from you <[link removed]>about how you would like to see your city power its future.

I hope you’ll join us as we rededicate ourselves to the proposition that if the people lead, the leaders will follow.

Onward!
