The 2022 National Environmental Scorecard is Here!

Exciting news, Friend! Today, LCV released our 2022 National Environmental Scorecard, and we wanted to make sure you were among the first to see it.

Since 1970, the Scorecard has been the gold standard for evaluating the environmental records of members of Congress and holding leaders accountable to their constituents. This year’s publication is now available for download here, and online at scorecard.lcv.org.

With the passage of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) — the most significant federal climate legislation in our nation’s history — 2022 was a historic year for climate action.

LCV’s 2022 National Environmental Scorecard highlights this monumental win — and you can now see how your representatives voted on this landmark legislation by clicking here.

Because of the clean energy plan’s importance and scope, LCV took the rare step of double scoring the vote — an effort to hold our nation’s leaders accountable for creating a healthy, sustainable, and equitable climate future for all.

In addition to the IRA, the 2022 Scorecard includes dozens of votes on other impactful climate and environmental policies, as well as votes in both chambers on legislation that would strengthen democracy and safeguard equity. For the first time this year, the Scorecard includes a section highlighting the leadership of Champions of Color, including the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

In the Senate, Democratic leadership scored an average 97%, and Republican leadership scored an average 6% on the 2022 Scorecard. In the House, Democratic leadership scored an average of 96% and Republican leadership scored an average 4% on the 2022 Scorecard.

The votes that Congressional leaders take impact the health, safety, and sustainability of our communities and our planet — and clearly voters know the score, too. Even though anti-environment leadership took narrow control of the U.S. House this year, the lack of a predicted “red wave” in the 2022 midterms was a testament to the hard-won progress pro-environment members of Congress enacted last year.

Legislation passed in 2022 will continue to offer a path forward to advance climate solutions, environmental justice, peaceful presidential transitions, and jobs nationwide, providing communities with the investments needed to build an equitable and prosperous clean energy future for all.

Check out the 2022 National Environmental Scorecard here, and learn more about how your representatives and others across the country voted on the Inflation Reduction Act, democracy, and other critical issues.

Thank you, Friend, for your support in ensuring we hold our leaders accountable.

Onward,

Matthew Davis
