It’s imperative that school nurses are educated and made aware of the different forms of trafficking that can infiltrate the school community and healthcare settings, so they can be prepared to identify signs of trafficking, advocate for resources and educate the school community on this issue. Prevention, early recognition, and support of children/youth who are victims or suspected victims of human trafficking are critical to their present and future physical/emotional well-being. LEARN MORE NASN Receives Grant for Vaping Toolkit: Your Feedback Needed NASN has received grant funding to create a toolkit for school nurses to vanquish vaping in schools. As part of that process, NASN is seeking to learn more about vaping education programs for middle school aged students (6-8th grade) that are currently being implemented in schools across the U.S. created by or directly involving a school nurse. Metric Does your school track chronically absent students? If your school does not track this, advocate for this information to be tracked and sent you to as a school nurse. Attendance Works offers free data tools designed specifically for schools and school districts to track chronic absence. LEARN MORE Concussion Input Needed The Institute to Promote Athlete Health and Wellness (funded by the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of Nursing Research) is exploring concussion reporting by young athletes (ages 12-17) and the role their parents and coaches play. They are inviting 10-15 nurses to participate in a 30-minute web-based focus group (date TBD). Participants will be compensated with a $20 Amazon gift card.
