Friend, momentum for the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act (SB 252) is surging.

We’ve already collected over 1,500 signatures on the petition we sent last week to show support for this critical bill to forbid California’s public pension funds from investing in fossil fuel companies.

But we haven’t seen your name yet on the list of signers, friend.

Supporter: YOU
Petition: NOT SIGNED

Add your name right now to tell the State Legislature to stop our retirements from bankrolling fossil fuel corporate profits >> [link removed]

Thanks for standing up to the fossil fuel industry.

Friend, did you know Californians’ retirements are bankrolling fossil fuel corporate profits?

The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) are the agencies that invest the pension funds of state employees and teachers, respectively.

And right now, those pension funds are investing BILLIONS OF DOLLARS into fossil fuel companies.

We can’t be fighting to solve the climate crisis while simultaneously investing billions into companies that are the primary cause of climate change.

Fortunately, State Senator Lena Gonzalez has introduced the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act (SB 252), which will stop CalPERS and CalSTRS from investing in fossil fuel companies, require them to divest current holdings by 2030, and issue reports on their divestment progress annually starting in 2025.

Will you sign our petition calling on our California leaders to pass this critical bill to stand up to corporate polluters and help end our reliance on fossil fuels?

CalPERS is investing $7.4 billion of state employees’ pensions in the 200 biggest fossil fuel companies. CalSTRS is investing teachers’ pensions in 174 fossil fuel companies.

Friend, it’s outrageous for California, which strives to be a global leader in the fight to solve the climate crisis, to still be investing in fossil fuel companies at all, much less to this extent.

At a time when Californians’ health, lives, and livelihoods are on the line from record heat waves, floods, pollution, and extreme wildfires, we should be transitioning AWAY from fossil fuels rather than propping up fossil fuel billionaires with our retirement dollars.

And the dollars of teachers especially, who make up one of the most environmentally conscious professions, shouldn’t be propping up the fossil fuel industry.

If we work together to weaken the influence of corporate polluters and end our reliance on fossil fuels, we can build out a clean energy economy and vibrant democracy that is just and sustainable for all.

California must remain true to its climate commitments as well as its moral values when it comes to investment choices. Show your support for the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act by signing our digital petition to the California Legislature → [link removed]
