Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the 2022 National Environmental Scorecard. Have you checked the scores for your members of Congress yet? [[link removed]]

2022 was an exceptionally productive year in the pro-environment, pro-democracy-led House and Senate. It was the best year ever for climate action in Congress with the passage of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act. The 2022 Scorecard [[link removed]] includes dozens of votes on other impactful climate and environmental bills, in addition to a number of votes on legislation that would strengthen democracy.

Oregon’s U.S. Senators, Ron Wyden (96%) and Jeff Merkley (100%), not only continued to receive high scores, but proved again that they are climate champions, including helping pass the biggest-ever investment in clean energy, creating good jobs, and fighting climate change and environmental injustice.

Three of Oregon’s U.S. Representatives received perfect scores: Congressman Blumenauer, Congresswoman Bonamici, and now former Congressman DeFazio all received 100%! Former Congressman Schrader came in at 84%. Then there’s Congressman Bentz, who received a whopping 0% (yikes).

What’s new in this Scorecard [[link removed]]? Scoring the Inflation Reduction Act twice was a first for this year’s Scorecard, but not the only first. For the first time ever, LCV’s Scorecard included votes in both chambers to protect same-sex and interracial marriages, as well as reproductive rights. LCV is committed to safeguarding equity, and the House vote that failed to protect access to reproductive healthcare serves as a reminder that basic human rights are under threat from Republicans and the Supreme Court’s extremist majority.

Also for the first time this year, LCV’s annual These Votes Have Impacts report is included in the Scorecard itself. This section highlights the leadership of members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Asian Pacific American Caucus, and Hispanic Caucus — together, the Tri-Caucus — who scored an average of 98% on the 2022 Scorecard and were instrumental in passing bold climate legislation and working to address environmental injustice.
