We’re gaining momentum
----------
Jack —
When I joined the League as the Director of Stewardship and Restoration last summer, my biggest concerns and hopes surrounded the precarious future of the giant sequoia. That’s why the progress made in 2022 by the Giant Sequoia Lands Coalition [[link removed]] – which we are founding members of – is so heartening to me and why I wanted to make sure you saw our earlier email sharing some of the highlights below.
The League has ambitious goals around continuing to protect giant sequoia groves and restoring a healthy balance of fire and fuel. The giant sequoias are in a perilous situation, but this report highlights the work the Coalition is doing to protect and restore these majestic trees. And we need your support today to help safeguard giant sequoias for centuries to come. [[link removed]]
Thanks for all your support!

P.S. Your action is needed now. Please make a gift to protect the giant sequoia and help support our efforts in the coming year. [[link removed]]

[email protected]>Dear Jack,
There’s no good way to say this, the giant sequoias are in trouble.
This magnificent forest ecosystem has lived on the west slopes of the Sierra Nevada for millions of years — and we have lost over 20% in two years of unprecedented, intense wildfires.
In the face of this existential threat, Save the Redwoods League has led the creation of the Giant Sequoia Lands Coalition [[link removed]], working together to sound the alarm and actively treat giant sequoia groves at risk.
Help safeguard giant sequoias today! [[link removed]]
After our first year of large-scale collaboration, we have exciting news to share in our Progress Report [[link removed]] — and it is good news for the giant sequoia.
The Coalition exceeded its goals, treating more than double the number of acres initially targeted for restoration last year. We wanted to share some of the heartening highlights from the report:
Saving Our Sequoias: 2022 Giant Sequoia Coalition Progress Report
- 4,257 acres treated (more than double our 2022 goal!)
- 36 of 80 total groves treated
- 4,600 individual giant sequoia trees protected with surrounding fuel removed
- 248,000 conifer trees planted, including giant sequoias
- 10,000 media stories placed
- $10.5 million invested so far

Support our sequoias — contribute today! [[link removed]]
This is terrific momentum, but there’s still a lot of work left to do. Those 4,257 acres only represent about 16% of the total acreage that needs help. A number of at-risk groves remain untreated and at great risk.
How the giant sequoia emerges from this existential threat will be determined by the choices that we make now.
We, collectively, must take responsibility for what happens next. If you'd like to help, please give to help keep the momentum going [[link removed]] .
Thanks so much for your interest and support in this urgent mission.
