Content Warning: suicide, suicidal ideation, anti-Black victimization.

Friend, our latest report examining the Mental Health of Black Transgender and Nonbinary Young People ([link removed]) reveals the mental health crisis affecting them and ways that we can take action to support and affirm them.

These findings underscore real, impactful ways to reduce suicidal thoughts and attempts through community and familial social support. Those with high social support from family members had 47% lower odds of reporting a suicide attempt, and those with high social support from friends had 39% lower odds compared to those who reported low or moderate levels of support.

🔍 Other Key Findings:
* One in four Black trans and nonbinary young people reported a suicide attempt in the past year. This is nearly double the rate compared to their cisgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning peers (25% vs 12%).
* Black trans and nonbinary young people experience higher rates of victimization, attempts from others to change their sexual orientation or gender identity, and housing instability compared to Black cisgender LGBTQ young people.

We encourage you to join us in fierce support of Black transgender and nonbinary young people by utilizing The Trevor Project’s resources and guides to learn more about providing the necessary anti-racist and gender-affirming support to the Black LGBTQ young people in your community. Together we can make a difference.
