The Texas AFL-CIO is holding its annual convention in Austin this weekend,
where six of the #DemocratDozen running for U.S. Senate will compete to prove
who is the most Californian of all.
Even though union membership has been on the decline

for several decades, the endorsement of the AFL-CIO is still a prized badge of
honor for Bernie-style Liberals. So much so, that #HollywoodHegar is going to
break from her M.O. of skipping debates and is planning to show up… and Chris
#nochanceinBell was thrilled to pose with histhree campaign staffers who felt
they needed to unionize
<[link removed]>. But c’mon… we
all know #AOCristina Tzintzún Ramirez is the real odds on favorite.
The Austin community activist may have some explaining to do though…
A complaint

was lodged with the U.S. Department of Labor against a non-profit organization
she co-founded: the Workers Defense Project (WDP). While WDP enjoyed the
benefits of its non-profit status, it’snow under investigation for being a
front for a labor union.
With an active Austin city councilmember on #AOCristina’s board, red flags

were raised when companies doing business with her organization started
getting fast-tracked construction permits with the city.
“These organizations have popped up around the country as a way to conduct
organizing activities outside the scrutiny of the Department of Labor and legal
requirements of a labor union,” said the VP of the organization lodging the
complaint.
We look forward to seeing if the AFL-CIO bosses will endorse a candidate who
loves unions, but whose possibly illegal actions will certainly be a topic of
conversation throughout the campaign…
