350Brooklyn members meeting - Fixing the BQE: climate progress or peril?
March 14 at 7:30 pm
New Yorkers agree: the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is a traffic nightmare that's falling apart. But there’s no agreement on what to do. The city wants public input on plans to overhaul the crumbling roadway. Will the solutions cut greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, or make things worse? Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, architect/planner John Massengale, and the Regional Plan Association’s Vanessa Barrios will discuss the climate stakes and what we can do. Register in advance to attend on Zoom.

Join us for Power Hour: Low pressure, high impact
Join us on Mondays 12-1pm and Wednesday 8-9PM for Power Hour where we call and write in support of effective climate policy. We’ll continue lobbying Brooklyn’s state representatives and writing letters to the editor in support of the excellent Climate Jobs and Justice Package, including the NY-HEAT Act (Home Energy Affordable Transition) which would help rein in the power of the gas utilities by removing their incentives for expansion. Sign up for Power Hour. We provide all the tools necessary to dive in, you just show up!

FROM OUR FRIENDS AND ALLIES
Save the trees!
Support the Friends of Fort Greene Park
The NYC Department of Parks plans to cut down 58 mature shade trees in Fort Greene Park and replace them with a plaza. The result will be a hotter park with less uptake of pollution. The Friends of Fort Greene Park have an alternative. Make a call, write, email and/or post on social media to help them save the trees.
Protect local waters!
The US Army Corps of Engineers proposes to build an extensive series of high barriers to storm surges off much of NYC. Hudson Riverkeeper and other water protectors in our region see major problems with the proposal and have an alternative. Read about the issues and then comment to USACE by March 7.
