John,
Last weekend, the
**New York Times** published an **investigative piece**
<[link removed]>
where they found unaccompanied migrant children who have crossed the
border becoming part of "a new economy of exploitation."
It is horrifying to see that migrant child labor is thriving in the 21st
Century. This exploitation of children is an inexcusable and cruel
departure from our values. While federal agencies need to move quickly
to place children with adult sponsors, they also have an imperative to
get it right - by conducting necessary vetting and taking steps to
ensure children are not being placed in harm's way.
**Urge the Biden administration and Congress to put the safety of
migrant children at the forefront.** <[link removed]>
Although federal agencies need to move people through the system
quickly, they must get it right, first and foremost by respecting human
dignity. Protecting children is too important to cut corners.
Congress can help too. It must hold the administration accountable and
fund agencies to better screen sponsors and act in children's best
interest. The Biden administration, Congress and states should work
together toward immediate and longer-term solutions that keep kids safe
and honor our values.
**Add your name: Migrant children deserve to be treated with dignity and
grace.** <[link removed]>
Protecting migrant children and treating them with dignity and grace is
not only the moral thing to do, but also core to our values and identity
as Americans.
Thanks for advocating on behalf of migrant children,
Jennie Murray
