Hi friend, Top election experts are saying my re-election campaign will be one of the most competitive races in the entire country, and I wanted to take a moment to explain why this fight is so important to me. In a moment, I'll ask you to contribute to my campaign’s 2023 preparation efforts – but if you don’t have time (and that’s okay!), can you please chip in now? I believe that change can happen in a generation if we work for it. I know, because it happened for me. My dad immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico in 1950. He worked in the fields, served two tours in Vietnam, and took a union job to provide a path into the middle class for our family. My parents couldn’t afford to send me to college, so I juggled multiple jobs – from painting homes to pouring coffee – while attending UC Berkeley. It took me seven years, but I earned that degree and it opened doors for me that I hadn't thought possible before. My daughter was born 18 years ago, and I felt in my core the same determination that drove my own parents: That there was nothing that would keep me from doing everything in my power to shape a stronger, more equitable future for Amelia and her generation. That's why I stepped up to serve in the Oregon legislature. As a legislator, I fought for more affordable health care, helped Oregon begin to tackle our climate crisis, and passed the nation's most progressive paid family leave bill. It took hard work to get these things done, but I was determined. Now, I’ve brought that same determination to Congress. I'm not ready to stop fighting for Oregon families, but to stay in Congress I’ll need your help. I’ll be honest: When I learned that election experts were already predicting our 2024 race to be highly competitive, I was worried. But then I remembered the lesson I learned from our 2022 campaign: Together, we can do anything. I need you – my grassroots supporters – with me every step of the way.
Thank you, Andrea Salinas |
