John —
You may have seen over the last few days that my Republican colleagues have been questioning my loyalty to the United States. I am a proud American, and these comments are racist, dangerous, and disgusting. By treating Asian Americans as foreigners in our own land, the Republican Party is perpetuating dangerous stereotypes and feeding the fires of anti-Asian hate that have been burning for years now.
I'm strong enough to withstand these baseless, xenophobic attacks. However, I'm deeply aware that I am not the only person impacted by these unbelievably offensive accusations.
Asian Americans across the country who have been facing a rise in hate crimes for years see these comments and feel less safe. Young Asian Americans considering a career in public service read these statements and may doubt whether their country will want their service. And every child across the country is seeing another example of ugly, homegrown hate that they should never be exposed to.
These kinds of accusations of disloyalty are not new in America. But I won't be backing down from fighting for the America I believe is possible: where our diversity is our strength, racism is never tolerated, and we all work towards a better future, together.
Best,
Judy
