Featured Funding Opportunities FY2022 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant ProgramThe Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. FEMA will be holding two workshops for interested applicants:SAFER Recruitment & Retention March 1st, 2PM EST.SAFER Hiring March 8th, 2PM EST.The application period closes March 17, 2023. If you intend on applying, remember to contact my office for a letter of support!Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support ProgramThe DFC Support Program funds community-based coalitions that engage multiple sectors of the community to prevent youth substance use.The DFC Support Program provides grants up to $125,000 per year for five years to community coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. After five years, community coalitions may re-compete for another five-year cycle.Application period closes on April 11, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Apply Here!Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Treatment Grant ProgramsSAMHSA is announcing Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) for five grant programs aimed at preventing substance misuse and treating substance use disorder (SUD) throughout the nation. The five grant programs are:Grants to Expand Substance Use Disorder Treatment Capacity in Adult and Family Treatment Drug Courts – $32.4 million – This expands SUD treatment and recovery support services in existing drug courts. Adult Reentry Program – $13 million – This program expands SUD treatment and related recovery and reentry services to adults in the criminal justice system who have an SUD and/or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders, who are returning to their families and communities after being incarcerated.Medication-Assisted Treatment – Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction Grant Program (MAT-PDOA) – $18.2 million – This program provides resources to help expand or enhance access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). This program will help to increase the number of people who receive MOUD for their opioid use disorders and decrease illicit opioid use and prescription opioid misuse.Emergency Department Alternatives to Opioids Program (ED-ALT) – $6.8 million – This program develops and implements alternatives to opioids for pain management in hospitals and emergency department settings.Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP Act) Grants – $3 million – This program works to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth and young adults ages 12-20 in communities throughout the United States. Featured Award AnnouncementTonko Announces $156K+ for Local Fire DepartmentsToday, I announced the awarding of more than $156,000 in federal funding to two local fire departments. In this round of funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program, the Burnt Hills Fire Department will receive $121,308.57, and the South Glens Falls Fire Company will receive $34,746.66, all going toward the purchase of radios, equipment maintenance, and other critical safety and operational needs to protect their members.Our brave local firefighters work tirelessly each and every day to keep our communities safe. Their selfless efforts demand that we provide these courageous men and women with the training, equipment, and other resources they need to continue to serve our communities safely and efficiently. I’m proud to deliver this critical funding that strengthens our local fire departments, and I’ll continue my efforts to make certain that first responders in all of our communities have the resources they need. Small Business ResourcesSmall Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) ProgramsIf your small business is engaged in scientific research and development, you may qualify for federal grants under the (SBIR) and (STTR) programs. These programs encourage small firms to undertake scientific research that helps meet federal research and development objectives and have high potential for commercialization if successful.New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC)The NYSBDC provides small business owners and entrepreneurs in New York with the highest quality, confidential business counseling, training, and business research at no cost.The Albany Small Business Development Center serves small businesses in the Capital Region.
