Dear John,
I wrote to you yesterday to acknowledge the positive progress that
has been achieved for people and businesses in Northern Ireland and
across the UK. Best for Britain's team has been working tirelessly to
push this government into rebuilding our relationship with Europe and
engage in constructive negotiations and with your campaigning efforts
we have forced them into being constructive - for a change.
With yesterday's success in mind I'm writing to ask if
you’ll help us build on this work. There's so much more to do
and we need to make the next few months count if we're going to get
the deeper and closer friendship with the EU that we want.
I'll
donate another amount
I don't agree with Rishi Sunak on much, and I definitely did not want Brexit.
So I'm not used to approving of actions taken by this government.
However, I believe Best for Britain's supporters have helped push them
in the right direction - we want a closer, constructive relationship
with Europe and this week that is what we got.
The new deal, which you'll have seen called the ‘Windsor
Framework’, breaks down some of the barriers to trading with Europe
and brings certainty to businesses across the UK that have been
struggling to find opportunities since Brexit. These problems have
been a huge part of the parties being unable to agree to power-sharing
in Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Assembly has not been
able to function.
But the Windsor Framework has started to fix that.
The EU also announced yesterday that now the Northern Ireland
problem is solved and the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill has
officially been dropped they are open to the UK rejoining the Horizon
programme which supports and funds science and research - a massive
boost to a sector that should be the UK's pride and joy.
You may not know this already, but this would almost
certainly not have come about without Best for Britain’s work behind
the scenes to block the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill and force Rishi
Sunak into negotiating a whole new deal in the first
place.
Over the last year, you helped us:
- Collect 20,000 supporters like you to sign petitions and contact
MPs about the NI Protocol Bill
- Provided briefings for Lords and helped draft amendments and
strategy to block the NI Protocol Bill
- Built a coalition of Lords to build a strategy to block the
Bill
- Convened meetings and briefings with dozens of Lords and experts
to gain support for this strategy, putting the entire Bill under
threat and forcing Rishi Sunak to find a new solution
- Worked to ensure opposition to this Bill received as much media
coverage as possible, increasing the need for Rishi to avoid a public
embarrassment of defeat on it
I’m proud of the excellent work you helped our team to do, and I'm
incredibly grateful to have supporters like you with us, helping to
secure a more promising future for Northern Ireland, the UK and
rebuild the relationship with our EU friends. The 78+ businesses that
signed our open
letter celebrating this new deal yesterday agreed.
No relationship with Europe is better than the one we had inside
the EU, but with your help we are campaigning tirelessly to restore
and rebuild our ties with our friends across the continent. And we're
winning.
This week is a massive step forward in rebuilding constructive
dialogue between the UK and EU. Best for Britain will keep pushing for
deeper ties and closer working between our country and our friends
across Europe.
I'm glad to have you with us, and thank you for supporting
the campaign.
Best regards,
Naomi Smith
