John,

The Biden Border Crisis continues unabated. More than 5.5 million illegal aliens have entered our country since President Biden took office, including over a million known “gotaways,” and others who completely avoided detection when they crossed the border.

While border states are bearing the brunt of Biden’s dereliction of duty, every community across the country is impacted by the Biden Border Crisis.

Governor Ron DeSantis is leading the fight to combat this crisis, and Florida will not turn a blind eye to the dangers of our open borders. Governor DeSantis has — and will continue to — take decisive action to protect Floridians. Last year:
- Florida formed a strike force of state and local law enforcement to interdict human smuggling, human trafficking, and to seize illegal weapons being transported through the state.
- Florida sued the Biden Administration to end “catch and release,” and Governor DeSantis successfully petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to impanel a statewide grand jury to examine international human smuggling networks that bring aliens to the southern border, and ultimately to Florida.
- Governor DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1808, sweeping legislation he proposed to further protect Floridians from the Biden Border Crisis. The new law prohibits government agencies from contracting with any common carrier facilitating the resettlement of illegal aliens into Florida, and requires certain law enforcement agencies to enter into a written agreement with ICE to assist in enforcing federal immigration laws by identifying illegal aliens.
- Governor DeSantis secured funding in the state budget to transport aliens to sanctuary jurisdictions, like Martha’s Vineyard. While Biden refuses to secure our border, life-threatening drugs like fentanyl are pouring into our communities, creating a national drug crisis and taking the lives of countless Americans – especially our young people.

Governor DeSantis increased the criminal penalties for trafficking fentanyl in Florida, and First Lady Casey DeSantis launched a statewide public messaging campaign to educate Floridians on the life-altering effects of drug use.

When Florida saw an increase of boats coming from Cuba and Haiti to the Florida Keys, Governor DeSantis immediately declared a state of emergency with no help from Biden, and used our state’s resources to ensure that Florida homeowners would not be forced to bear the costs of unauthorized migration.

Governor DeSantis is committed to doing everything in his power to protect the people of Florida from the ongoing border crisis that is ravaging communities across the nation. That’s why Governor DeSantis just announced new actions to protect Floridians where the federal government has failed:
- Florida will increase the criminal penalties for human smuggling and charge smugglers with separate offenses for each individual transported.
- Florida will require all employers in the state to use E-Verify to determine employment eligibility. This will remove the main motivation for illegal aliens to move to Florida, and it will ensure that all employers are following the labor laws of our country and state.
- Florida currently prohibits driver's licenses for illegal aliens, which we will continue to do. However, some local governments in Florida are trying to circumvent this law by using nonprofits to create identification cards for individuals who are in the country illegally. Our proposed legislation will prohibit that practice, and local businesses will no longer be able to provide funds to issue identification cards to illegal aliens.
- Florida’s constitution correctly requires all voters in the state to be U.S. Citizens. . This is a matter of sovereignty and should not be a controversial policy. Shockingly, some cities – San Francisco, New York City, Washington, D.C. – want non-citizens, including illegal aliens, to vote. Florida doesn’t allow that, and we’ve instituted an Election Crimes Unit last year to prosecute individuals who illegally vote in Florida. Now, when you register to vote in the state of Florida, you must affirm you are a United States citizen and a legal resident of Florida. If you check that box, and you are lying, you are now open to prosecution. If you are not a citizen of this country, you should not be voting in our elections. While these are just several of
Governor DeSantis’ proposed measures to fight back against Biden’s Border Crisis, Florida will continue to take action to bring order to the chaos while mitigating the threats of illegal immigration for Floridians.

Florida has acted where the federal government has turned a blind eye. Governor DeSantis will continue to use all resources at Florida’s disposal to protect Floridians.
