Dear friends of Rights Action,
I’m writing with some exciting news.
After more than 15 years as a freelance journalist and nearly as many as an editor and translator, I’ve finally joined with a small team here in Mexico and south to create a new news outlet for Latin America.
The site will be called Ojalá, which means "may it be" in Spanish, reflecting a collective desire for change in difficult times.
Our vision for Ojalá is to produce a digital weekly dedicated to covering popular, feminist and communitarian movements with an eye to understanding the workings of state power, from Tijuana to Tierra del Fuego.
Our mission is to publish reporting and analysis from the front lines of organizing, shattering tired tropes about Latin America with all the energy we see in the streets. Our website will be bilingual, featuring original contributions and translations in English and Spanish.
Today, I wanted to reach out to encourage you to join Ojalá’s mailing list, which you can do here.
The first email will go out in early March, as Ojalá kicks off with international coverage and reflection of March 8 International Women’s Day protests from different points in the hemisphere.
I look forward to staying in touch as Ojalá charts a new course in independent media.
Onwards!
Dawn Marie Paley
Co-founding Editor, Ojalá
