Friend,

Trump is once again misusing religious freedom to justify discrimination. We expect the administration to propose a new rule to allow discrimination on religious grounds against foster care volunteers and parents who are LGBTQ or the “wrong religion” in all 50 states.

Congress can ensure that every child gets the loving home they deserve by passing the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (ECDF) – but we need you to tell them it’s a priority.

Follow this link to urge your senators and representatives to support ECDF right now:

Subject: End foster care discrimination today

Discrimination in our foster care system is bad enough, but it’s about to get even worse.

Friend,

In many states, qualified foster care parents and volunteers are being turned away because they are LGBTQ or the “wrong” religion. That means more kids in the foster care system are denied the loving homes they need and deserve.

That’s just wrong — but sadly, it’s about to get even worse.

In a blatant weaponization of religious freedom, the Trump administration plans to announce a new rule that could allow discrimination against potential parents in all 50 states.

It has never been more urgent for you to contact your members of Congress and tell them to support the Every Child Deserves a Family Act (ECDF), which would protect foster care parents and children from discrimination.

ECDF would ensure that taxpayer-funded adoption and foster care agencies cannot discriminate against families and children on the basis of religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or marital status.

This bill will protect our nation’s most vulnerable children from being denied a safe, happy and healthy home.

Your legislators are critical to the passage of ECDF. Make sure they hear our message by taking action and urging them to support this bill immediately →

TAKE ACTION

AU is no stranger to fighting discrimination on the basis of religion in foster care. That is exactly what we've been doing in South Carolina for our client Aimee Maddonna, a Catholic mother of three. She was discriminated against by her state's largest foster care provider for being the "wrong" religion.

We expect that Trump’s new rule will essentially double down on that policy by expanding it to every state in the country. Friends, it would be nothing short of a license to discriminate.

Please contact your members of Congress now and help us ensure that every child gets the loving home they deserve.

Thanks for taking swift action,

Maggie Garrett
VP of Public Policy
