Dispatches from the cost of living crisis - and tips for surviving it

Our media platform – Context [[link removed]] – has partnered with Pocket [[link removed]] to present a collection of our reporting on the cost of living crisis.

As issues like the conflict in Ukraine, coronavirus, climate change, and rising oil prices continue to affect the price of commodities like food and energy, everything is becoming more expensive, in almost every country. The ‘Dispatches From the Cost of Living Crisis — And Tips for Surviving It’ [[link removed]] collection offers insight into the often underreported impact of global economic upheaval and practical suggestions for navigating it.

Law firms remain committed to pro bono amid global crises

The 2022 TrustLaw Index of Pro Bono [[link removed]] is the fifth edition of our survey mapping the global scale and trends of the pro bono legal sector. The Index, our most comprehensive version to date, highlights successful pro bono programmes and provides benchmarks on pro bono participation, offering law firms a unique resource to build and improve their pro bono practices.

The 2022 Index found that 3.5 million hours of pro bono were completed globally by more than 100,000 lawyers across 124 countries. This work took place across a range of issues such as access to justice, sustainability and climate action, human rights, women and LGBTQ+ rights, and freedom of speech.

2023 Kurt Schork Awards: Entries opening soon

We'll soon be opening applications for the 2023 Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, which honour courageous reporting of conflict, corruption, human rights transgressions and injustice.

Now in their 22nd year, these annual Awards, hosted by the Kurk Schork Memorial Fund (KSMF) [[link removed]], recognise freelance journalists, local reporters and news fixers from around the world who report on pressing global challenges, often at personal risk. The winners of the 2023 Awards will speak in a panel to be hosted at the Foundation’s annual flagship event, Trust Conference.

Human Rights:

Openly reports on the plight of the trans community in Ukraine, one year since conflict began

Anastasiia Yeva Domani is the director of Cohort, an expert on the Working Group of Trans People on HIV and Health in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and a representative of the transgender community on the Ukrainian National Council on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.

She spoke to Openly [[link removed]], the Foundation’s global digital platform for fair and impartial LGBTQ+ news, about turning her apartment into a place where trans people can access the medications that conflict has made scarce. Although the situation is slowly improving, the invasion has made purchasing hormone drugs much more expensive and difficult [[link removed]]. Anastasiia’s work is providing much-needed support to the already marginalised trans community.

Based in London, The Head of Inclusive Economies will shepherd the expansion of TRF’s portfolio of products and programmes to foster responsible business practices and develop and scale research and analysis on key relevant topics to build our thought leadership and engagement with the private sector.

Experience Cloud Developer, TrustLaw (FT: 12 months) [[link removed]]. Based in India, the TrustLaw Portal Developer will help to transform the TrustLaw Members’ Portal – developing features to take it from a simple platform, through which we connect high-impact NGOs and social enterprises with leading law firms and corporate legal teams, to an interactive ecosystem that also offers opportunities for learning, knowledge-sharing, innovation, networking, and collaboration.
