Hi John,

The right-wing is at it again.

They did a (shoddy) hit piece in the ultra-conservative media outlet The Post Millennial, rehashing a video we made.

We had pointed out that Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s late and photo-op-oriented arrival in East Palestine, Ohio did not address any of the basic needs residents are experiencing from the ongoing environmental disaster there. They were more interested in smearing me.

And a Koch-funded doctor, one of the right-wing’s pawns in the pandemic, urged his followers to attack me after I pointed out how his research puts millions of lives at risk, including disproportionately people with disabilities and immunodeficiencies.

What’s the common thread here? Dark money funds these people and groups. Dark money that does not want progressive transparency in financial positions of power.

Well, that’s exactly why I am running for Philadelphia Controller. These groups fear the light; it’s our job to shine that light. We need accountability because people depend on it – and corporations know they have to do everything they can to avoid transparency so that they can keep profiteering.

This fight is about everything wrong with our country – it’s a fight against the fundamental greed that chooses to amplify hate and fear over solutions because that’s what serves a few people’s wallets. We can and must do better.

Please, we need your help. People-power only works when people show up.

Donate $50 today to send a message that the people are coming to hold corporations and dark money accountable. That’s why I’m in this race, and together, we can win it.

Alexandra Hunt is a public health researcher, a girls’ soccer coach, an advocate for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice, and a community organizer.

She's the daughter of two teachers and a sister to a twin brother with a learning disability. Seeing the systemic obstacles her brother faced inspired Alexandra to become an advocate and challenge barriers on the basis of race, gender, class, and ability.

Now, Alexandra's running to be the Philly's next City Controller because the people in Philly work too hard for too little. And right now, line items in budgets create lines for food and health care. It's time to elect a City Controller who is going to prioritize the needs of the communities Philly's money comes from.
