Federal Parliament resumed this month - with the revelation that the government had left Australia exposed by letting important regional processing arrangements lapse late last year. [[link removed]]

Labor then further compounded the problem by abolishing Temporary Protection Visas for those who arrived in Australia by boat illegally [[link removed]] - sending a green light to people smugglers.

At a time when the Government needs to focus on strong economic management to repair the Budget, it was revealed that they've had to commit to a "surge" in Navy sea and air patrols [[link removed]]as a direct result of their policies!

It's deeply concerning that Labor still doesn't understand the implications of changing the suite of measures that have kept our borders secure for nearly a decade.

In Parliament I also moved a motion in support of Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price's Bill to restore alcohol restriction [[link removed]]s in the Northern Territory. Her strong advocacy on this issue forced both the NT and Federal Governments to finally act. We will monitor closely what difference the new reforms and extra funding makes to addressing alcohol-induced violence, especially in Alice Springs.

Here on the Coast it's been great to visit a number of local schools to congratulate the 2023 School Leaders [[link removed]]. I also had the honour of presenting local businesses ABI Interiors [[link removed]]and Medical Rescue [[link removed]] with their national Austrade Australian Export Awards. Congrats to these two exceptional local businesses!

A reminder that expressions of interest for Round 8 of the Stronger Communities Grants close on the 14th March [[link removed]] - if you know a local community group with a project in need of funding support, please let them know.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback on any federal issue - please feel free to give my office a call on 0755 809 111 or send me an email: [[link removed]]

Until next month,

Karen Andrews MP
